Boban Confirmed For Memsie

Wednesday, 27th August 2014

Trainer Chris Waller believes that top-class miler Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare) will be tough to beat when he resumes in the Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. Waller withdrew the triple Gr1-winner from last Saturday's Gr2 Warwick Stakes at Randwick due to the heavy ground, saying he did not want to waste one of the Bernardini gelding's spring runs on an unsuitable surface. "You are limited with how many runs you get out of a horse like that," Waller said. "I would say he would be peaking around third or fourth run and we don't want to waste any runs. You can get away with it with horses that aren't quite at that level, but at the elite level everything needs to be in their favour." He added, "I was pleased that I scratched him and he should be very hard to beat in what looks like a really good race on Saturday." Boban established himself as arguably the pre-eminent miler in Australia last season with top-flight victories over that distance in the Epsom Handicap, Emirates Stakes, and Chipping Norton Stakes.
