Jockey Club Next For Palace Malice
Palace Malice (Curlin-Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem) will have his next start in the US$1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on 27 September, trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed on Monday. Last year's Belmont Stakes winner had been training for Saturday's Woodward Stakes at Saratoga, but Pletcher has decided to bypass the Gr1 feature after the 4YO put in an average track gallop on the weekend. "We just felt like his breeze was good, but it wasn't that sparkling breeze that we were looking for leading into the Woodward," Pletcher told kentucky.com. "We know that his record at Belmont is really, really good. You could argue that it is his favorite track. We just felt like the Jockey Club made the most sense at this time." After winning his first four starts this year, the son of Curlin was placed sixth behind Moreno in the Gr1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga on 2 August.
