Rupee Impresses In Latest Gallop

Wednesday, 27th August 2014

The world's highest rated sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice-Estelle Collection, by Stravinsky) continued his build-up to the spring when winning a jump-out (800m) at Caulfield yesterday morning, reports racingvictoria.net.au. Working under the cover of heavy fog that made visibility for spectators' impossible, the three-time Gr1 winner appeared in great order winning easily by five or six lengths against a quality field that included Gr2-winning stable-mate Tango's Daughter. "From the barriers I got him out and got him running and he travelled well on the heavy track," said regular rider Craig Newitt. "I shook him up with about a furlong (200m) left and he let down well, it was a good hit-out." Trainer Mick Price confirmed the son of Redoute's Choice will gallop at Moonee Valley on Tuesday 2 September with stable-mate Lion Of Belfort, before resuming in the Gr2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at the same track on 6 September. "I think he's right on target. He'll have another gallop on Saturday and on Tuesday next week he'll go to Mooonee Valley for a gallop so he can get on the float and get a bit excited," Price said. "I'll probably take Lion Of Belfort there too and Lion Of Belfort can lead him up and they'll have a good half-mile (600m) gallop. I don't think there'll be any excuses for him [Lankan Rupee] first up. I reckon he's pretty spot-on."
