Sargent Pleased With Kirramosa

Wednesday, 27th August 2014

VRC Oaks winner Kirramosa continued her build-up towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups with a track gallop at Randwick yesterday, reports racenet.com.au. The John Sargent-trained mare finished an encouraging sixth (beaten 1.75-lengths) behind Sweet Idea when resuming in the Gr2 Missile Stakes at Randwick on 9 August and will have her second start this prep in a benchmark 95 handicap over 1500m at Rosehill on Saturday. "She's taken a good deal of improvement off that run, as you'd expect," Sargent said. "She hadn't raced since last November and we elected not to trial her because I was more than happy for her to come to peak fitness during her campaign." The 4YO daughter of Alamosa will bid to become just the seventh mare to win the Caulfield Cup in the last 30 years when she lines up in the $2.5 million feature (2400m) on 18 October. The last six female winners are Southern Speed (2011), Ethereal (2001), Arctic Scent (1996), Mannerism (1992), Let's Elope (1992), and Tristarc (1985).
