Treve To Resume In Arc Trial

Wednesday, 27th August 2014

Treve, last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine, remains on track for a likely appearance in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp next month after pleasing trainer Criquette Head-Maarek in a track gallop yesterday morning, reports Sky Sports. Last year the star mare was in imperial form stretching her unbeaten record to five with her outstanding Arc victory, but she has been unable to recapture that spark in two starts in 2014.  She was beaten by compatriot Cirrus Des Aigles on her return to action in the Prix Ganay back in April and was then third in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot behind The Fugue, after which she was found to have pulled muscles. However, Head-Maarek says that the Motivator mare is back to full health and expects her to return to her best in the coming months. "Treve worked this morning [Tuesday] with three lead horses over 2000 metres (mile and a quarter) and I was very happy with her. The ground was a bit soft after all the rain, so that helped her," said the trainer. "She seems fine, she's happy in herself and it looks like all the problems are gone, so we keep our fingers crossed." She added, "She is en route to either the Prix Vermeille or the Prix Foy (both September 14), but I think the Vermeille is more likely." Despite her troubled campaign, Treve is among the leading contenders for what promises to be a fascinating renewal of the Arc on 5 October with the likes of Australia, Just The Way, Sea The Moon, and Taghrooda all in the running for Europe's most prestigious race.
