BHA Confirms Contaminated Feed Theory
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) yesterday announced the date for a Disciplinary Panel hearing regarding the recent positive samples for morphine, and confirmed the identity of the horses and races involved. In seven of the eight cases, the highest profile of which is The Queen's Estimate, the circumstances are sufficiently similar for the cases to be heard together. The date for this hearing will be 25 September 2014. However, the circumstances of the eighth case do differ slightly to the other cases and consequently will be heard separately in due course. The BHA will claim at the hearing that the source of the positive samples was a contaminated batch of feed and that the trainers involved took all reasonable precautions to avoid breaching the Rules of Racing. The BHA will submit that no financial penalty should be imposed. However, according to the Rules of Racing, the BHA says that the horses involved should be disqualified from the relevant races.
