Green Moon To Resume In Makybe

Thursday, 28th August 2014

Divan's older stable-mate and 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon (Montjeu-Green Noon, by Green Tune) will resume in the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on 13 September, reports horseracing.com.au. Co-owner Nick Williams told RSN's Racing Ahead yesterday that the son of Montjeu is in excellent condition ahead of the spring carnival and that the team are looking forward to getting him back to the track. "Green Moon is great," Williams said. "He is a marvellous old horse and I am looking forward to getting him to Flemington in a couple of weeks. He has plenty of residual fitness from last spring and we will kick him off over the mile at Flemington all things being well. We will go from there and see where it takes us." Williams said that Green Moon, who is nominated for both the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate, was likely to head towards the Caulfield Cup, but that he and his father Lloyd Williams would adopt a wait and see approach before making any final decisions. "I think that he has shown us enough that maybe the place to go with him is heading towards the Caulfield Cup," Williams said. "He has great form over 2400, he has run second in the race previously and these Melbourne Cup winners up in the weights have a pretty good record at Caulfield." He added, "Tentatively that is what we have in the back of our minds, but with all these horses we need to see where they take you."
