Oaks Winner Talent Retired

Thursday, 28th August 2014

Last year's Investec Oaks winner Talent (New Approach-Prowess, by Peintre Celebre) has been retired following her fifth to Tapestry in the Yorkshire Oaks, reports Sky Sports. The Ralph Beckett-trained filly claimed the only Gr1 win of her career when defeating Secret Gesture and The Lark at Epsom under champion jockey Richard Hughes. Speaking on his website, Beckett said: "It has been decided to retire Talent. She gave us the best day of our training career when winning the Oaks last year and she ran right up to her best when running second in the St Leger three months later." He added, "But it became obvious that she is not the same filly this year and so it became clear that the best thing to do was to retire her. She will return to Ashbrittle Stud where she was bred and be covered next spring. We will miss her, but with luck we can look forward to training her progeny." The daughter of New Approach retires with 3 wins from 11 starts and nearly £490,000 prize-money.
