Big Week For Seachange

Friday, 29th August 2014

On the same day that her exciting son Divan broke his maiden in impressive fashion at Sandown Park in Melbourne, former champion Kiwi mare Seachange gave birth to a filly by resident sire Darci Brahma at The Oaks Stud at Cambridge in New Zealand, reports NZ Racing Desk. "Seachange has had a stunning filly with a lot of leg, really strong and the same colour as her mother," stud manager Rick Williams said on Tuesday. "We're delighted to have another live foal after she previously lost a Darci Brahma colt and she'll be going back to him again." Seachange's first foal is an unraced 5YO by Zabeel who was purchased by Lloyd Williams for $500,000 at Karaka in 2011. Named Thornton, he is being prepared at the Williams' Mount Macedon training complex and is expected to debut soon. "He's had a few little niggles and then he got a bad virus, which put him out for nine months," Williams said. "He's due to race soon." Thornton is a full-brother to Divan, who is being aimed at the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate in the spring.
