Qatar Racing Unveils Gr1 Prospect
Beautifully bred filly Betsy announced herself as a genuine Gr1 Thousand Guineas prospect when scoring an impressive debut win over 1450m at Cranbourne yesterday. Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds, the daughter of Redoute's Choice and Gr2 Wakeful Stakes winner Quays was purchased by David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Bloodstock for $250,000 at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud. The 3YO had her Thousand Guineas quote trimmed from $51 into $21 after her stylish 4-length victory, although trainer Peter Moody seemed unsure how far she would progress this preparation. "She is a nice big leggy filly, there is plenty of upside to her, but she is not very robust," Moody told TVN. "I'm just not sure just how deep she will go in her first preparation. I'll just be guided by her." Winning jockey Luke Nolen was full of praise for Betsy whom he said had a bright future. "I think she is a really nice filly going places," Nolen said. "Hopefully, that ride will secure me a ride on her in the future. I really think she has a bright future." He added, "She has a wonderful attitude, and more importantly she has a nice motor and a real presence about her." Betsy hails from a successful female family that includes Gr1 Flight Stakes winner Pontal Lass and Gr1 Sussex Stakes winner Rousillon, best known as the sire of recently deceased Melbourne Cup winner Vintage Crop.
