Contributer Wins Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes
At Warwick Farm in Sydney, dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) celebrated a Gr1 success when 5YO Irish-bred entire Contributer (High Chaparral-Serisia, by Exit to Nowhere) scored by 0.5-length for trainer John O'Shea in the $500,000 Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding and stable-mate Hartnell (Authorized-Debonnaire, by Anabaa) & 6YO gelding He's Your Man (Cape Cross-Via Saleria, by Arazi). Imported into Australia by Godolphin last spring, Contributer is now unbeaten in his three starts on Australian soil. He took his record 7 wins (including the Gr2 Apollo Stakes, Gr3 David Jones Cup, Listed Magnolia Stakes & Listed Wolferton Handicap) and 3 placings (including the Gr3 Dee Stakes at Chester) from 13 starts for $753,789 earnings. Contributer's victory represents a special milestone in the career of O'Shea, as it is the first Gr1 winner he has trained for Godolphin. "It was a great team effort more than anything. It is good because all of the team here today have worked hard to get this result. It is only the start," O'Shea told TVN. "The second horse (Hartnell) ran very well as well which is very rewarding. It is a lovely result for everyone." Contributer will now head to the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (200m) at Rosehill on 21 March en route to his primary autumn target, the $4 million Gr1 Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on the final day of The Championships (11 April).
