Danesiri Wins Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes
At Warwick Farm in Sydney, Oxley Island Thoroughbreds' Danehill stallion Home On The Grange (Danehill-Emporium, by Easy Goer) celebrated his first stakes winner when 6YO mare Danesiri (Home on the Grange-Lea Tonde, by Filante) scored by 0.8-length for trainer John Thompson in the $150,000 Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) for 4YO+ mares, over fellow 4YO mares Cosmic Endeavour (Northern Meteor-Crevette, by Danehill) & 5YO mare Mahara (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King). Danesiri took her record to 7 wins and 11 placings (including the Gr3 Triscay Stakes & Gr3 Angst Stakes) from 37 starts for $270,260 earnings. Danesiri is out of the unraced Filante mare Lea Tonde, whose dam Destiny is a full-sister to Jade Tiara, best known as the dam of champion Hong Kong Sprinter and Horse of the Year Silent Witness as well as Gr2 winner Sister Madly. Trainer John Thompson said it was an honour to win the inaugural running of the Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes (previously known as the Wiggle Stakes), named after the late trainer Guy Walter whom Thompson considered a mentor. "He was a massive supporter of me as was his family. I got a lot of horses from him after his passing. He was an absolute champion of a man," Thompson told TVN. "It is an absolute honour to win his race. When I went for my trainer's license he was one of the three people who gave me a great reference. It was a three pages and hand written."
