Mourinho Wins Gr2 Peter Young Stakes

At Caulfield in Melbourne, triple European Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler & now South African-based sire Oratorio (Danehill-Mahrah, by Vaguely Noble) added a Group success when 7YO gelding Mourinho (Oratorio-Benevolent, by Generous) scored by 0.75-length for trainer Peter Gelagotis in the $200,000 Gr2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) for 3YO+, over fellow 7YO geldings Happy Trails (Good Journey-Madame Flurry, by Perugino) & Akzar (Selkirk-Alaiyda, by Shahrastani). Mourinho, a $36,000 yearling consigned from Little Wych Stud at the 2009 Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney, took his record to 9 wins (including the Gr2 Australia Stakes, Gr3 JRA Cup, Gr3 Tasmanian Derby & Listed Cranbourne Cup) and 9 placings (including the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes) from 34 starts for $963,997 earnings.
