Pride Of Dubai Wins Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes
At Caulfield in Melbourne, Darley shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) celebrated a Gr1 success when beautifully bred 2YO colt Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry-Al Anood, by Danehill) overcame trouble in running to score by 0.2-length for trainers Peter & Paul Snowden in the $1 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, over 2YO fillies Reemah (Redoute's Choice-Vormista, by Testa Rossa) & Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock-Hips Don't Lie, by Stravinsky). This was the first stakes victory for the highly promising Pride Of Dubai who took his record to 1 win and 2 placings (including the Gr3 Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Prelude) from 3 starts for $650,350 earnings. "It's always great to win these big races, especially for Sheikh Bin Khalifa (Al Maktoum). It's the first group of horses that he has given us so it's a big result. We're very happy," Paul Snowden told TVN. "To tell you the truth if he didn't win today he was a certainty beaten. To his credit he picked himself up off the canvas and he's proved to be a worthy winner." Snowden said he would sit down with Sheikh Bin Kalifa's racing manager Tim Stakemire and discuss whether or not to head towards the Gr1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on 21 March. "I wouldn't put it past him but he's got a Sires' (Gr1 1400m) and Champagne (Gr1 1600m) written all over him, so we don't want to waste that but he's very valuable now." A homebred for Sheikh Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Pride Of Dubai is a half-brother to stakes winner Al Aneed out of the Danehill mare Al Anood, herself a half-sister to Gr1 Prix de Diane winner Rafha.
