Suavito Wins Gr1 Futurity Stakes

Monday, 2nd March 2015

At Caulfield in Melbourne, Windsor Park Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning stallion Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) celebrated Gr1 success when 4YO mare Suavito (Thorn Park-Queen Cha Cha, by High Chaparral) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainer Nigel Blackiston in the $400,000 Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 7YO gelding Smokin' Joey (Encosta de Lago-Dalzing, by Blazing Sword) & 4YO entire Dissident (Sebring-Diana's Secret, by Anabaa). This was a well deserved maiden Gr1 victory for Suavito who took her record to 6 wins (including the Gr2 Momentum Energy Stakes & Gr3 Eliza Park International Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr2 Kewney Stakes & Gr3 Ladies Day Vase) from 16 starts for $755,550 earnings. "I knew the mare was going really well this time in. She had grown and got stronger," trainer Nigel Blackiston told TVN. "She had two nice jump-outs at Flemington and it was a perfect race to try her at weight-for-age." He added, "To come back and win a Gr1 first-up is fantastic...she's a valuable mare now."
