Injury Explains Fontiton Failure
Part-owner Brodie Arnhold has revealed that beaten Blue Diamond favourite Fontiton will undergo immediate surgery to remove two bone chips after injuring a front fetlock in Saturday's $1 million 2YO feature at Caulfield, reports racingnetwork.com.au. The previously undefeated filly finished fifth, beaten 3.4-lengths, behind the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum-owned Pride Of Dubai. "Robert (trainer Robert Smerdon) said it was a good, clean break so there should be no issues with her coming back for the spring," Arnhold said. "He said that he's expecting a 100-percent recovery and we're not expecting it to impact on the spring. That explains why she wasn't at her best on Saturday." Fontiton is expected to be aimed at the Gr1 Thousand Guineas in the spring.
