Randwick Guineas Preferred For Shooting To Win
Peter and Paul Snowden say they will accept with Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor-Listen Here, by Elusive Quality) in Saturday's Gr1 Australian Guineas at Flemington, despite the top colt likely to remain in Sydney for the Randwick equivalent, reports racing.com. Peter Snowden said the Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on the same day is the preferred option for last season's Caulfield Guineas hero, but that a final decision would be left until later in the week. "More than likely he'll stay in Sydney but if the weather turned bad, or he drew a bad gate then we could change our mind so I want to leave our options open," Snowden said. "My priority is to stay in Sydney because naturally with the program he has it saves coming to Melbourne for the one run but I wouldn't completely rule it out." He added, "I'll talk to the owners and see what their thoughts are but I'd say at this stage we'll accept for both races." Snowden senior says he has been delighted with Shooting To Win's progress since his first-up fourth behind Hallowed Crown in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on 21 February. "His work's been great and he's taken really good improvement from that first-up run," he said. "His condition only gave out over the last 80 metres but he's come on since then and going to the mile second-up I think he's going to run really well." He added, "He showed last time in that he just improves with racing and he's a bit more forward than in the Spring and I expect him to hit peak fitness a lot sooner this time."
