Canterbury Stakes Return For Leebaz
Highly promising galloper Leebaz (Zabeel-Polish Princess, by Polish Precedent) is set to resume in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. The 5YO son of Zabeel, who hasn't raced since finishing a close-up fourth behind Hucklebuck in the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) in the spring, showed he was ready to return to the races when finishing fourth behind Gr1 sprinter Terravista in an 800m barrier trial at Warwick Farm last Friday. "He trialled really good last Friday at Warwick Farm behind those good sprinters," co-trainer Michael Hawkes said. "He wasn't asked to do much and he only had a short prep last time in. In saying that we have always been targeting this autumn with him and hopefully you will see him bob up in races during The Championships." He added, "He is really, really good and he is going to run a really good race on Saturday." While Team Hawkes are yet to confirm Leebaz's main autumn targets, last year's Gr1 Doomben Cup placegetter has been nominated for several feature events including the Gr1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).
