Neena Rock Retired

Thursday, 5th March 2015

Talented Kiwi mare Neena Rock as been retired after finishing last in the Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday, reports theinformant.co.nz. A stewards' report revealed the John Sargent-trained 6YO suffered cardiac arrhythmia and had a poor recovery rate. "We believe the reason behind it was heat-stroke, it was very hot on the day," Sargent said. "The stewards have said she has to go back to the trials, so after discussing the situation with her owner Warren Bolton we've decided to retire her." He added, "We had been aiming her at the big fillies and mares' races coming up at the carnival, but having to get her through this and then go back to the trials, we're going to run out of time. Warren always intended selling her as a broodmare once her racing days were over, so she'll be entered for the Inglis broodmare sale in early May." By Fastnet Rock out of the Miesque's Son mare Feminine Wiles, Neena Rock won 5 of her 20 career starts for $206,000 prize money. Her biggest wins were in the Gr3 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham in March last year, and the Gr3 Angst Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in the spring.
