Williams To Ride Minnesinger

Thursday, 5th March 2015

Meanwhile, Craig Williams, who was set to partner Disposition in Saturday's Australian Guineas, has fortuitously picked up the ride on promising colt Minnesinger in the Gr1 feature at Flemington, reports racingnetwork.com.au. The Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Minnesinger is considered a strong chance in the Guineas after his encouraging second behind Alpine Eagle in last weekend's Gr2 Autumn Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield. "In a very even, open and competitive Guineas, I think he has a legitimate chance on his barrier draw (3) and his run last week," Williams said. Williams also views the drop in distance from 1800m to a mile as a positive. "He's hard fit. The old theory with a Doncaster was to run them first over 2000 metres before you go into the mile," he said. "The first three home in the Autumn Classic are going into the Guineas with big chances." He added, "It was disappointing to lose a ride on horse like Disposition, but I've been lucky enough to pick up another ride. I feel for Bob Peters and Wez Hunter - they haven't got a runner, they will be devastated." Being by Lonhro out of former top-class filly Serenade Rose (Gr1 VRC Oaks, Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes & Gr1 AJC Oaks), the Godolphin-owned Minnesinger will see his value as a stallion prospect soar if he win on Saturday. Guineas winners who have gone on to forge successful stud careers include Zabeel (1990), Flying Spur (1996), Pins (2000), Reset (2004), and Al Maher (2005), while Ferlax (2013) and Shamus Award (2014) are only just beginning the next stage of their careers at Haunui Farm and Widden Stud respectively.
