Aperchoix Impresses On Debut

Friday, 6th March 2015

Valuable colt Aperchoix looked a smart prospect in the making when scoring a stylish debut win in a 1200m maiden at Wyong yesterday. The 3YO, who is trained by Clarry Conners on behalf of a syndicate comprising long-time stable clients Dr Edmund and Belinda Bateman, as well as Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, was an $800,000 purchase by John O'Shea at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm. This was technically the second trip to the races for Aperchoix, who was declared a non-runner at Rosehill on 25 February after he was denied a start when the gates failed to open. The win was a relief for Conners, who has had to wait over 12 months to get Aperchoix to the track due to maturity issues. "He's been an immature horse but just look at him, he's a lovely horse," Conners told Sky Racing. "As I keep saying though, time is a wonderful thing. It's all about patience. He's got a heap of ability so it's nice to see him win for the owners." Winning jockey Tye Angland predicted a bright future for the handsome colt. "He's a cracking looking colt. He's got a lot to learn but all the ability is there," he said. "He'll go to town now and he'll be competitive in some nice races." By reigning Champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, Aperchoix is out of Gr1-winning Encosta de Lago mare Apercu, and hails from the family of Gr1 Railway Handicap winner Alynda, Victoria Derby winner Hit The Roof, and Gr3-winning sire Fast 'n' Famous.
