Vale Dean Logan

Friday, 6th March 2015

Dean Logan's long battle with cancer has ended, with the popular New Zealand trainer passing away peacefully at his Whangarei home, reports theinformant.co.nz. "Dean put up a hell of a fight, that was the measure of the man," said his close friend Garry Cossey. "By rights he should have been dead months ago but he refused to lie down. It's a comfort to everyone that he passed away peacefully this morning." Dean Logan was originally a diesel mechanic before he joined his former wife Donna in a hugely successful training partnership based at Ruakaka. Along with the stable's many feature wins in New Zealand and Australia, he gave generously of his time to racing administration, in particular to the Whangarei Racing Club. He served many years on the club committee and was president, only to have to stand down, at the time his illness was diagnosed. This Saturday one of the Logans' stable stars, Australian Oaks winner Rising Romance, will be the overwhelming favourite to add another Gr1 victory to the stable's honour roll in the Gr1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie.
