African Story Wins Gr1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 Stakes

Monday, 9th March 2015

At Meydan racecourse in Dubai, Godolphin's 2014 World Cup winner African Story (Pivotal-Blixen, by Gone West) bounced back from a disappointing first-up performance in the Gr2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 last month to score by a neck for trainer Saeed Bin Suroor in the Gr1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 8YO entire and stable-mate Prince Bishop (Dubawi-North East Bay, by Prospect Bay) & 6YO entire Henry Clay (Dubawi-Congressional, by Grand Lodge). African Story took his record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Dubai World Cup, Gr2 Godolphin Mile & Gr3 Burj Nahaar Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr3 Firebreak Stakes) from 20 starts. "He was not so good first time out but he had not run since last year and he probably needed it," said Bin Suroor. "I knew once he got in front he would like it." African Story will bid to defend his title in the US$10 million Gr1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan on 28 March.
