Cosmic Endeavour Wins Gr1 Canterbury Stakes

Monday, 9th March 2015

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, ill-fated Widden Stud sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago-Explosive, by Fappiano) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO mare Cosmic Endeavour (Northern Meteor-Crevette, by Danehill) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Gai Waterhouse in the $500,000 Gr1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) for 3YO+, over 5YO mare Catkins (Dubawi-Salix Caprea, by Catbird) & 4YO entire Criterion (Sebring-Mica's Pride, by Bite the Bullet). In doubling her Gr1 tally Cosmic Endeavour took her record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara, Gr2 Dane Ripper Stakes & Gr2 Sapphire Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes, Gr3 Darley Crown & Gr3 PJ Bell Stakes) from 16 starts for $1,419,280 earnings. Cosmic Endeavour, who was a $230,000 purchase by Mr DC & Mrs JR Kelly at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Willow Park Stud, is out of the stakes-winning Danehill mare Crevette, herself a full-sister to Gr1-winning Hong Kong sprinter Fairy King Prawn and a half-sister to Gr1 Salinger Stakes (now VRC Sprint Stakes) winning sire Easy Rocking.
