Hallowed Crown Wins Gr1 Randwick Guineas
At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Darley's 2006 Champion 2YO Colt & 2007 Gr1 Kentucky Derby-winning shuttler Street Sense (Street Cry-Bedazzle, by Dixieland Band) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Hallowed Crown (Street Sense-Crowned Glory, by Danehill) scored by 0.8-length for trainers Bart & James Cummings in the $600,000 Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colts Sweynesse (Lonhro-Swansea, by Singspiel) & Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor-Listen Here, by Elusive Quality). "This is the best three-year-old in the country," James Cummings told TVN. "I think he has answered the critics there, does this horse run a mile, he is even better over the mile." Cummings said Hallowed Crown would now take on the older horses in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 21 March en route to the Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on 4 April. "Because he is a colt and he has not had to face the fillies yet this preparation he is going to go into the George Ryder I would say on the back of that and why wouldn't we take on the older horses on route to the Doncaster," he said. Hallowed Crown, who is co-owned by his breeder Eduardo Cojuangco's Gooree Stud and Sheikh Mohammed's breeding arm Darley Australia, took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 Golden Rose, Gr2 Hobartville Stakes, Gr3 Run To The Rose & Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes) from 7 starts for $1,348,475 earnings. The Gooree bred colt is out of Golden Slipper runner-up Crowned Glory and descends from the same female line as champion New Zealand stallion Zabeel, Australian Guineas winner Baryshnikov, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winning mother and son Detroit and Carnegie.
