Vercingetorix Retired

Monday, 9th March 2015

Meanwhile, South African star Vercingetorix (Silvano-National Vixen, by National Assembly) has been retired after suffering a career-ending injury in the Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes in Dubai on Saturday, reports racingpost.com. The son of Silvano was attempting to win a second consecutive Jebel Hatta at Meydan's Super Saturday meeting, but pulled a sesamoidal ligament during the race. Speaking on his website, trainer Mike de Kock said: "It's a big setback, Vercingetorix would have been a serious runner for us on World Cup night, we had him on top of his game or this race, he was extremely well." He added, "But we have to face reality. This is what I hate about racing. One gets up only to go down. I guess it happens in most other sports. Thankfully our horse is okay, the injury is not life-threatening." Vercingetorix retires to stud with the outstanding record of 7 wins (including the Gr1 Daily News 2000 Stakes & Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes) and 2 placings from 9 starts.
