Bonaria Shoots For Third Matron Success

Tuesday, 10th March 2015

Meanwhile, talented Victorian mare Bonaria (Redoute's Choice-Decidity, by Last Tycoon) is likely to remain in Melbourne to chase a third straight victory in the Gr3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday, reports racing.com. The 6YO Redoute's Choice mare is also a possibility of contesting the Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens, but trainer Pat Hyland believes the Matron is a more suitable target at this stage of her preparation. "It looks like a nice race for her at Flemington and you've got the bonus that you don't have to travel," Hyland said. "The Coolmore is at set weights and penalties which means she'd carry the top weight against a pretty good field." He added, "She's also got 51kg in the Doncaster so if they happened to get a wet track then that could also be an option for her." Hyland said he is keeping his options open for the remainder of Bonaria's autumn campaign, with feature races in Sydney and Adelaide under consideration. "We've paid up for the Queen Of The Turf and Doncaster Mile, and there's also the possibility that we could go to Adelaide with her for a race like the Queen Of The South."
