Tanby Wins Gr2 Adelaide Cup

Tuesday, 10th March 2015

At Morphettville in Adelaide yesterday, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Group success when 8YO gelding Tanby (Galileo-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Mick Cerchi in the $400,000 Gr2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) for 3YO+, over 5YO gelding Taiyoo (Haradasun-Ambers Halo, by Don't Say Halo) & 5YO Irish-bred gelding Renew (Dansili-Hold Me Love Me, by Sadler's Wells).  Tanby took his record to 10 wins (including the Gr2 Zipping Classic, Listed Bendigo Cup & Listed Bart Cummings Handicap) and 10 placings (including the Gr1 Australian Cup) from 45 starts for $1,095,735 earnings. "He has been going terrific the horse and we knew that he could run the journey out," trainer Mick Cerchi told horseracing.com.au. "Everything just went to plan and it is great for the people that supported us in Bulla Thoroughbreds." He added, ""I don't think you feel confident when you are in the Adelaide Cup and you just have to do your best. It is just great." Tanby, who is a half-brother to Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner, was originally a $200,000 purchase by Nick Williams at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Mill Park, before subsequently being purchased by Bulla Thoroughbreds for $140,000 at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Select Racehorse Sale.
