Coolmore To Decide Tinto Path

Wednesday, 11th March 2015

Trainer Rex Lipp says that how Tinto (Red Dazzler-Truly Brave, by Brave Warrior) performs in Saturday's Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill will determine what races the talented mare targets for the remainder of her autumn campaign. Last year's Queensland Oaks winner showed that she was building towards another feature race success when finishing strongly for sixth in the Gr3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm last start, despite a chequered passage in the straight. That was Tinto's first run in seven weeks, and Lipp says the 4YO mare has improved since. "She tracked them into the race, had a bit of a chequered run and if she got a better run she probably finishes a lot closer," Lipp told RSNs Racing Ahead. "With her training I haven't done a great deal with her, otherwise it would just make her dour. But she has done very well. I'll gallop her tomorrow (Wednesday) and that will be the only gallop she has this week. Everything is on track." Lipp said there are plenty of options for Tinto moving forward, including autumn majors such as the Gr1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), Gr1 Queen of the Turf (1600m), and Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m). "We've accepted in the Doncaster, we've accepted in the Queen of the Turf and the Queen Elizabeth. After Saturday we will sit down and work out a plan which way we go," Lipp said. "We've got all those options with her. Whether she gets a run in the Doncaster and those sorts of races remains to be seen. She'll get into the Queen of the Turf okay, but the other two races are a bit of an 'if' and a 'but' with her."
