Mawingo To Stand At Grenville Stud

Wednesday, 11th March 2015

Grenville Stud has announced that Mawingo (Tertullian-Montfleur, by Sadler's Wells) will stand at its Whitemore base in Tasmanian for the 2015 breeding season. Mawingo was a high class, tough and versatile racehorse, who will be the first Gr1 winning international galloper to stand at stud in Tasmania. Possessed of stamina and a terrific turn of foot, Mawingo competed at the highest level in a career that spanned four countries, namely Italy, Germany, Australia, and Singapore. The 6YO German-bred entire was successful in 5 of his 20 career starts, highlighted by the 2012 Gr1 Doomben Cup, where he defeated Gr1 winners Lights Of Heaven and fellow European bred galloper Manighar. Other memorable performances were the 2013 CF Orr Stakes, where he charged home from the tail of the field to finish a narrow second to Black Caviar's half-brother All Too Hard, & the Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup the same year, when running a slashing third behind Hong Kong star Military Attack. Mawingo's pedigree is one of considerable depth. His sire, the globe-trotting Tertullian won five Group races in three countries. A son of highly successful Mr Prospector stallion Miswaki, Tertullian is a three-quarter brother to Urban Sea, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner who went on to be even more successful at stud, producing the champion racehorses and stallions Sea The Stars and Galileo. Mawingo's dam, by the legendary Sadler's Wells, hails from one of the world's great stallion families, which includes More Than Ready, Caerleon, Buckpasser, Woodman, Boucher, Rhythm, Private Account, Noble Bijou, Don't Say Halo and Hula Chief. "He is a lovely stallion with great conformation and an excellent temperament," Graeme McCulloch stated upon Mawingo settling into Grenville. An open day will be held a Grenville in April for breeders to view Mawingo and Cardinal Virtue. Mawingo will stand his first season for $4,400 including GST. For bookings please contact Graeme McCulloch on 0417 018  895.
