Hartnell To Miss Australian Cup
Talented Godolphin import Hartnell (Authorized-Debonnaire, by Anabaa) will not run in Saturday's Gr1 Australian Cup at Flemington, with trainer John O'Shea revealing he is reassessing the gelding's autumn program, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Despite a brilliant start to his Australian career when charging home for second behind stable-mate Contributer in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm two weeks ago, O'Shea says he does not want to rush the former English galloper. While Hartnell is an acceptor for the Gr3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday, O'Shea says the horse is not a definite starter. "He may not run in Sydney either," O'Shea said. "I'm being a bit conservative with him. He might go to the Ranvet or he might even go straight to the BMW. The more I look at his form all his runs are well spaced and hence the good performance we saw from him first up in the Chipping Norton." O'Shea added, "I had a chat to Henry (Godolphin's Australian Managing Director) after he worked and there were a few little things that were telling me that he does need to be fresh. I think he's a pretty talented horse, but I'm still learning about the horse," he said.
