No Sydney For Alpine Eagle

Friday, 13th March 2015

Exciting 3YO Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral-Zephyria, by Zabeel) will miss the autumn carnival in Sydney after pulling up "jaded" from his excellent runner-up performance in last weekend's Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington. "There are only two options with him," trainer Tony McEvoy told racingnetwork.com.au. "Either he'll go to the paddock or to the Derby (Gr1 SA Derby)." If McEvoy does decide to head to the Gr1 South Australian Derby (2500m) on 9 May, he is likely to give Alpine Eagle two lead-ups in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) at Morphettville on 11 April, and the Gr3 Chairman's Stakes (2000m) at the same track on 25 April. "He was a bit jaded after the Guineas so I'm going to keep a close watch on him for the next few weeks before we make any definite decisions," McEvoy said.
