Brazen Beau Wins Gr1 Newmarket Handicap

Monday, 16th March 2015

At Flemington in Melbourne, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit-Cannarelle, by Canny Lad) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible-Sansadee, by Snaadee) scored by 2.75-lengths for trainer Chris Waller in the $1 million Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding Chautauqua (Encosta de Lago-Lovely Jubly, by Lion Hunter) & 5YO gelding Terravista (Captain Rio-Parfore, by Gold Brose). Brazen Beau, who was purchased for $70,000 by Ontrack Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Murrulla Stud, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, Gr2 Roman Consul Stakes & BRC Champagne Classic) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes & Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes) from 10 starts for $1,407,825 earnings.  "You don't see that every day and he has beaten some very good horses and beaten them easily," trainer Chris Waller said. "He is a very good horse, he did a great job in the spring and he has had a trouble free preparation." Waller said the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 4 April would be Brazen Beau's final run in Australia before embarking on a trip to Royal Ascot for either the Gr1 Kings Stand Stakes (1000m) or the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) in June. Brazen Beau was purchased by Darley Australia at the end of last year but will continue to race in the all gold colours of his previous owners, Ontrack Thoroughbreds, for the duration of his autumn campaign.
