Hartnell Wins Gr3 Sky High Stakes

Monday, 16th March 2015

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, triple Gr1-winning former English Derby victor & Darley shuttler Authorized (Montjeu-Funsie, by Saumarez) added a Group success when 4YO UK-bred gelding Hartnell (Authorized-Debonnaire, by Anabaa) scored by 2-lengths for trainer John O'Shea in the $150,000 Gr3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 6YO Irish-bred gelding Opinion (Oasis Dream-Kiltubber, by Sadler's Wells) & 5YO gelding Hawkspur (Purrealist-Mollyhawk, by Catbird). This was the first Australian victory for the Godolphin-owned Hartnell, who took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket) and 5 placings (including the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes & Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud) from 15 starts for $477,410 earnings. The talented import is likely to have his next start in the Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on 28 March. "The horse jumped well, he took his time to get across and he got into a beautiful position where he could dictate the race," trainer John O'Shea said. "I am still learning about him and I just wasn't sure whether he would cope with the trip and the firmness of the ground. We will see how he pulls up and there is the option to run him in a fortnight and the option to run him in three weeks after."
