Suavito Wins Gr2 Blamey Stakes

Monday, 16th March 2015

At Flemington in Melbourne, Windsor Park Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning stallion Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) added a Group success when 4YO mare Suavito (Thorn Park-Queen Cha Cha, by High Chaparral) scored by 1-length for trainer Nigel Blackiston in the $200,000 Gr2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 7YO gelding Sertorius (Galileo-Pretty Penny, by Encosta de Lago) & 5YO French-bred gelding Kourkam (American Post-Kourka, by Keos). Suavito, who is now undefeated in her two starts this campaign, took her record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Futurity Stakes, Gr2 Momentum Energy Stakes & Gr3 Eliza Park International Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr2 Kewney Stakes & Gr3 Ladies Day Vase) from 17 starts for $877,550 earnings. Suavito's primary autumn target is the $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick on 4 April, but with a weight of just 50kg she finds herself languishing in 49th place in the order of entry and at risk of missing out. "She might not make the field, so we might look at staying here for the Sunline and then head to Sydney for the Queen Elizabeth.," trainer Nigel Blackiston told TVN. "It's that sort of race - the attrition rate can be quite high. Hopefully we are fit and well going forward and if we can get in, fantastic." He added, "If she can't get into the Doncaster I'll look at the Queen Elizabeth or the Queen of the Turf in Sydney."
