Ryan Bullish About Rubick

Thursday, 19th March 2015

Trainer Gerald Ryan is quietly confident that talented young sprinter Rubick (Encosta de Lago-Sliding Cube, by Rock of Gibraltar) can register his maiden Gr1 success in The Galaxy at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. The 3YO colt resumed with an encouraging second behind Miracles Of Life in the Gr2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) two weeks ago, but had no luck in running when temporarily blocked for a run in the straight. Ryan insists Rubick should have finished closer to Miracles Of Life than the official 2.3-length margin suggests, and is bullish about his prospects on Saturday. "He has done really well and he worked terrific yesterday (Tuesday) morning," Ryan told RSN radio. "I am really happy with him and he has come on from his first-up run. Being a handicap he meets the winner (Miracles Of Life) two kilos better." He added, "Whether that is enough to turn it around or not I don't know, but if he had a bit of luck the other day I reckon we would have finished right beside her. He is right in the race." With plenty of speed in the race, at least on paper, Ryan will instruct jockey Kerrin McEvoy to take a sit on Rubick when he jumps from barrier 4. "He proved the other day that he doesn't have to lead," Ryan said. "I have been itching to ride him with a sit and even after getting checked, stopped and changing course the other day at Randwick he still quickened and got to the line really well." He added, "I am looking forward to it."
