Sire Of Wise Dan Dies

Thursday, 19th March 2015

Wiseman's Ferry, the sire of two-time US Horse of the Year Wise Dan, died at Dana Point Farm in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. He was 16, reports bloodhorse.com. Dana Point Farm manager Maria Vorhauer said an autopsy is being carried out to determine the cause of death of the son of Hennessy. Wiseman's Ferry, who was standing at a fee of US$5,000 fee, had reportedly serviced five of the 38 mares booked to him for the 2015 season. "It is very emotional," Vorhauer said. "He really was my best friend." Bred in Kentucky, Wiseman's Ferry was a US$300,000 Keeneland September purchase who was initially campaigned in Europe in the Coolmore colours for Aidan O'Brien. He was then purchased by Morton Fink, owner of Wise Dan, and placed in the care of US trainer Niall O'Callaghan under whom he won the Gr3 West Virginia Derby and Gr3 Lone Star Derby. Wiseman's Ferry had sired 183 winners, including six stakes winners, from 231 starters with progeny earnings of US$20,363,239.
