Waikato Trial Track Underway

Thursday, 19th March 2015

Construction has commenced at Te Rapa that will see a trial track installed on the inside of the course proper, which is expected to reduce pressure on over-worked racecourses in the Waikato district, reports NZ Racing Desk. "It's a dedicated turf trial surface to relieve pressure off some of the other course propers we use during the winter and spring months," said Campbell Moncur, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing's General Manager Finance & IT. "The Counties course proper is also being redeveloped with new irrigation and drainage and we are expecting to sew the seed there in early April. Depending on how the grass strikes we will be looking to schedule trial meetings there in mid to late October." He added, "We are also looking at an inside trials track at Te Aroha to help take the pressure off other course propers in the winter and to make sure that there are good trial surfaces available leading into the spring."
