Contributer Wins Gr1 Ranvet Stakes
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) celebrated a Gr1 success when 5YO Irish-bred entire Contributer (High Chaparral-Serisia, by Exit to Nowhere) scored by 1.3-lengths for trainer John O'Shea in the $500,000 Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 4YO Japanese entire Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact-Admire Kirameki, by End Sweep) & 4YO NZ-bred mare Lucia Valentina (Savabeel-Staryn Glenn, by Montjeu). Contributer, who confirmed his status as the best weight-for-age horse in Australia with this thrilling display, took his record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes, Gr2 Apollo Stakes, Gr3 David Jones Cup, Listed Magnolia Stakes & Listed Wolferton Handicap) and 3 placings (including the Gr3 Dee Stakes at Chester) from 14 starts for $1,060,789 earnings. "James (jockey James McDonald) has always been adamant that if we ride him a little bit quieter he will accelerate better and I think you saw that today," trainer John O'Shea said. "It was a wonderful performance, he has an electric turn-of-foot and we have been happy with him at home, he ran right up to it." Imported into Australia by Godolphin last spring, Contributer is now unbeaten in his four starts this campaign and will attempt to extend that sequence to five when he makes his final autumn appearance in the $4 million Gr1 Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on the final day of The Championships (11 April).
