Sweet Idea Wins Gr1 Galaxy

Monday, 23rd March 2015

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's Gr1-winning & dual Gr1-placed stallion Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO mare Sweet Idea (Snitzel-Flidais, by Timber Country) scored by 2.3-lengths for trainer Gai Waterhouse in the $400,000 Gr1 Galaxy (1100m) for 3YO+, over 3YO colt Kuro (Denman-Distinctive Lass, by Orientate) & fellow 4YO mare Miracles Of Life (Not a Single Doubt-Dazzling Gazelle, by More Than Ready).  This was a thoroughly deserved maiden Gr1 victory for Sweet Idea who took her record to 8 wins (including the Gr2 Tristarc Stakes, Gr2 Missile Stakes, Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes & Gr2 Silver Slipper Stakes) & 8 placings (including the Gr1 Memsie Stakes, Gr1 Coolmore Classic, Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes & Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes) from 19 starts for $2,415,350 earnings. Sweet Idea, whose second dam is dual Gr1 winner Electronic, was purchased by Gai Waterhouse & James Harron for $240,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. "She had been all over Australia and she was too good for them today," Waterhouse told Sky Racing. "I am so thrilled for the owners, we have been wanting the Group 1 and she has got it in her first start back. What a mare!" Sweet Idea will now head north for the Brisbane Winter Carnival to be aimed at races such as the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 and Gr1 Doomben Cup.
