Toronado To Shuttle To Swettenham
Swettenham Stud has announced a partnership with Al Shaqab Racing that will see European Champion 3YO Miler Toronado (High Chaparral-Wana Doo, by Grand Slam) stand at Swettenham Stud in Victoria. "Toronado represents H.E. Sheikh Joaan's first involvement in Australian racing which reflects a substantial show of faith in the Australian bloodstock industry," Swettenham principal Adam Sangster said. "To be standing Toronado, who Champion Jockey Richard Hughes regarded as 'the best he'd ever ridden' is fantastic and Swettenham are immensely proud to be entrusted with him and are grateful for the vision of his advisers, in particular John Warren. This is a great opportunity for Victorian breeders to use the fastest son of the brilliant High Chaparral, who is emerging as a major influence." John Warren, who is managing Toronado on behalf of Sheikh Joaan, said: "He looks the perfect horse for Australia with the combination of his pedigree, powerful physique and high class performances. I know the breeders will be very impressed when inspecting him when he arrives in Australia, as he has been hugely popular here in the UK". The dual Gr1 winner of the Sussex Stakes & Queen Anne Stakes is standing his first season at the National Stud in England. Toronado will stand at Swettenham at a service fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
