Volkstok'n'Barrell Wins Gr1 Rosehill Guineas

Monday, 23rd March 2015

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Cambridge Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Tavistock (Montjeu-Upstage, by Quest For Fame) celebrated his first Gr1 winner when 3YO gelding Volkstok'n'Barrell (Tavistock-Volkster, by Volksraad) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Donna Logan in the $500,000 Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) for 3YOs, over 3YO colts Preferment (Zabeel-Better Alternative, by Flying Spur) & Hallowed Crown (Street Sense-Crowned Glory, by Danehill). Volkstok'n'Barrell, who was purchased by Logan Racing Stables for NZ$50,000 at the 2013 NZB Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Seaton Park, took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr2 Great Northern Guineas & Gr3 Bonecrusher Stakes) and 3 placings from 9 starts for NZ$605,643 earnings. Trainer Donna Logan said she will now consider running Volkstok'n'Barrell in the Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) on 4 April. "I was really worried because we are good at home, but when you get over here it is a different ballgame and these guys are tough. Ruakaka to Rosehill is a big difference," Logan said. "I will talk to Craig about it (the Australian Derby), I would really like his thoughts on it and what he thinks about 2400." She added, "If he is comfortable and thinks that he will get the trip then I would like to have a crack at it."
