Berry New Rider For Hallowed Crown
Golden Slipper winning jockey Tommy Berry will replace Hugh Bowman aboard top colt Hallowed Crown (Street Sense-Crowned Glory, by Danehill) in the $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick on 4 April, reports horseracing.com.au. Hallowed Crown's Doncaster weight of 52kg means heavyweight hoop Bowman must forgo the ride on the dual Gr1-winning colt, who suffered his first defeat this preparation when finishing third behind Volkstok'n'barrell in the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday. Co-trainer James Cummings said the plan all along was to run Hallowed Crown over a mile-and-a-quarter in the Rosehill Guineas before bringing him back to a mile for his autumn finale. "I believe we are well in the Doncaster at 4kg under weight for age and that's the time I want to take on the best open class horses," he said. "I just love the switch back in distance for the Doncaster two weeks later." Hallowed Crown is currently on the second line of betting for the Doncaster at $8 alongside fellow 3YO Kermadec with TAB.com.au. Japanese galloper Real Impact, winner of Saturday's Gr1 George Ryder Stakes, is the $6 favourite.
