Easter Cup For The Cleaner

Tuesday, 24th March 2015

The Cleaner (Savoire Vivre-Dash of Scotch, by Blessington) will miss Saturday's Mornington Cup to be saved for the Gr3 Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield a week later, reports racing.com. Trainer Mick Burles had planned on running the 7YO in the Mornington Cup after the popular Tasmanian galloper's excellent fourth in the Gr1 Australian Cup last start, but he said the huge weight the horse would have had to carry changed his mind. "He had 61.5kg in the Mornington Cup but he'll probably be the top weight with 60 kilos in the Easter Cup," Burles said. "The other thing is the race is only 2000 metres where as the Mornington Cup is a mile-and-a-half (2400m) and a mile-and-a-half with 61.5 kilos is probably a bit too much." Burles said he is looking forward to taking The Cleaner to Caulfield, which surprisingly is the one Victorian metro track that he has never raced at before. "I think the track will really suit him," Burles said. "He pulled up beautifully (after the Australian Cup), I don't think the horse has ever pulled up as well." He added, "I was very pleased with him, you couldn't have asked for a better run second up over 2000m."
