Gear Change For Victory

Wednesday, 25th March 2015

Trainer Mick Price says he will experiment with some gear changes in the hope of making exciting colt Ready For Victory (More Than Ready-Crillon, by Zabeel) race more tractably in the $1 million Gr1 Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on 4 April. The son of More Than Ready cost himself any chance of victory in last Saturday's Golden Slipper when racing erratically under jockey Nick Hall and veering towards the outside rail, but remarkably was still able to finish fourth (beaten less than 2 lengths) behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained Vancouver. "I'll play around with his gear, maybe trying a ring bit and even blinkers," Price told the Herald Sun. "It was a super run. The pity is he didn't give himself every chance. He sure has the ability, he just needs to be more responsive (to the jockey)." He added, " "He has remained in Sydney but he is doing great," Price said. "He ate up and pulled up really well after the Slipper and I'm sure he will continue to improve." Ready For Victory is currently an equal $7.50 second favourite for the Sires' Produce with the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly English. Blue Diamond winner Pride Of Dubai is favourite at $4.60.
