Kiwi Breds Doing Industry Proud
Meanwhile, Rosehill Guineas runner-up Preferment, who was co-bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, further added to an impressive list of black type results for New Zealand on one of the most competitive days of racing in Australasia, reports NZ Racing Desk. Among the other Kiwi bred horses to perform with distinction on Golden Slipper day were Lucia Valentina and Silent Achiever, who placed in the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes, as well as Kuro, who was runner-up in the Gr1 The Galaxy. Criterion and Kermadec also carried the NZ suffix into the frame in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes, while Music Magnate was runner-up in The Sebring at Listed level. Masterton bloodstock agent Bruce Perry, who was at Rosehill in his capacity as bloodstock manager for Lucia Valentina's owner Lib Petagna, said the results again highlighted New Zealand's ability to overcome the odds. "We haven't got huge numbers there and to be competitive against such international opposition was outstanding. Regardless of the level of investment here, we still breed a great product." He added, "We produced the first two Australasians home in the Ranvet, the first two Australasians home in the George Ryder, the quinella in the Rosehill Guineas, second in the Galaxy and two placings in the Epona – it was amazing."
