California Chrome Draws Widest For World Cup

Thursday, 26th March 2015

US Horse of the Year California Chrome has drawn the outside gate in the field of nine for Saturday night's US$10 million Gr1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan, reports bloodhorse.com. However, the awkward starting position certainly hasn't fazed the horse's connections. "He has natural speed. He can get out and not get any dirt in his face," said California Chrome's cowboy-hat wearing co-owner Steve Coburn. "We're happy with this post." Trainer Art Sherman also remains enthusiastic about the 7-4 favourite's chances. "I love it," the trainer told The Guardian. "Nine is a perfect position for our horse. I've got all the speed horses to the inside of me and he loves to run from the outside. The surface is not a concern, good horses can run on anything, even Tarmac and Victor [jockey Victor Espinoza] knows him really well. I'm just really glad to be here. He's a rock star all around the world." Godolphin's African Story, a surprise winner of the World Cup last year, will jump from barrier three. Click here to view fields for Dubai World Cup night.
