Doncaster New Target For Suavito
Nigel Blackiston has abandoned plans of starting Suavito (Thorn Park-Queen Cha Cha, by High Chaparral) in Friday night's Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley and will instead target the $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on 4 April, reports racing.com. The Doncaster is restricted to a field of 20 and while Suavito is currently 22nd in the order of entry, Australian Turf Club General Manager of Racing and Wagering, Colin Tuck, has given Blackiston cause for optimism. "I spoke to Colin Tuck yesterday, and the handicappers' office, and they told me that I would possibly get a start in the Doncaster," Blackiston said. "I'm about number 22 at this stage and they possibly might use discretionary powers to get her in." He added, "That's the idea of the having The Championships – they want the best – and she's one of the best around, so why wouldn't you put her in?" Blackiston said that if Suavito, a winner of her last four starts including the Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1400m), were to miss the Doncaster, she would run a week later in Gr1 Queen Of The Turf. "There's always that one percent that you might not get a run, but if it doesn't happen, at the end of the day, we can go to the Queen Of The Turf," he said. "So what have you got to lose? If we get in, fantastic; if not we'll just revert to Plan B."
