Rebel Dane Ready For William Reid
Sydney trainer Gary Portelli says that talented sprinter Rebel Dane (California Dane-Texarcana, by More Than Ready) is primed for a big first-up run in the Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night, reports racing.com. Although he is already a Gr1 winner courtesy of his 2013 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes victory, connections are hopeful that Rebel Dane can secure a top-flight win at weight-for-age to boost his appeal at stud. "He's been aimed at this race for a long time now and I'll just be glad to see the gates open. It's been a long time waiting," Portelli told Racing Ahead. "We've just aimed up at the one race with him. It's a Group 1 race and he's a stallion, so it's very important for him if we can get him over the line." Rebel Dane rounded out his preparation for the William Reid with a strong track gallop on Monday, which Portelli says topped him off nicely. "He trialled well, he worked nice last week at Warwick Farm between races and then had another follow up workout on Monday," Portelli said. "He was very sharp in his work there and his recovery was very good, which to me it shows that he's ready to go." Rebel Dane will be ridden by Craig Williams and will jump from barrier 7 in a field of 14. Click here to view Moonee Valley fields.
