Sydney Cup Confirmed For Red Cadeaux

Thursday, 26th March 2015

Trainer Ed Dunlop has confirmed that globetrotting English galloper Red Cadeaux will make his Sydney debut in the $1.6 million Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on the final day of The Championships (11 April), reports racing.com. Red Cadeaux, who ran an encouraging fifth in the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington two weeks ago, was nominated for Saturday's Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens but Dunlop says he is conscious of the 9YOs workload. "We have decided not to run Red Cadeaux in the BMW Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, instead preferring to go straight to the Sydney Cup two weeks later," Dunlop said. "It would have been tough to ask a nine-year-old to run in three Group 1 races in the space of a month." He added, "While he has come out of the Australian Cup in good form, we hope to maximise his chance of success at The Championships by giving him a little extra time before the two-mile showpiece at Randwick."
